How BESS Arbitrage Revenue is Calculated

1. Day-Ahead Price Spread

Grid batteries capture value by charging during solar trough/negative price hours and discharging during evening demand peaks.

2. Round-Trip Efficiency (RTE)

RTE (typically 85-88%) accounts for chemical and inverter heat losses. To deliver 1 MWh to the grid, ~1.17 MWh must be drawn from the grid.

3. Cell Degradation Offset

Every charge/discharge cycle causes lithium-ion cell degradation. Factoring in degradation costs (€6–€12/MWh) ensures accurate net margins.
